Summer Stories

Page history last edited by Zcineaste 14 years, 5 months ago

Greenburgh Public Library  "Express Yourself @ Your Library"  Teens enjoyed a summer of possibilities from a three week creative writing workshop, art book making workshop and music swap.  A collaborative book fair with Barnes and Noble ensured summer reading prizes.  Each of our top teen readers received a $25 dollar gift certificate to B&N.   As part of our closing summer reading festival, sponsored in part by a WLS mini grant, we featured special guest author Matt De La Pena.  Later in the day we held a decoupage workshop with artist Susan Ordahl where teens could express themselves on back-to-school notebooks they got to decorate and keep!

Chappaqua Library Teen Zone Highlights:

“When my children were very small, the library was a great place to participate in various programs suitable for the youngest of readers.  As they became older, I worried about the void of programs for tweens/young teens.  No need to worry anymore!  Zahra and her staff in Teen Services have developed a multitude of programs for our town's middle and high schoolers for the summer (as well as school year).” Jacqueline Silipigni, Library Patron.

One of our Chappaqua Library Teen Zone success stories of the summer was our ARC/Galley Book discussion group called “Book Buzz and Bagels.” This program gave teens access to books pre-publication, letting them be “in" on books no one else had read. Sharing their thoughts with other teens via lively discussions and Book Buzz blurbs posted on our teen website www.chappaqualibrary.org has made great strides in getting our teens into the Teen Zone and excited about reading.  Z – Head of Teen Services at The Chappaqua Library.
